Summer, sea and the scent of sunscreen, it’s a wonderful feeling that makes you feel like a solida; winter, snow and the scent of sunscreen should be just as beautiful and characterizing for snowshoeing and skiing.
Lo senti quel pungente profumo di freddo nell’aria, il grigio negli occhi e quei lunghi tramonti? E’ l’inverno che arriva.

I’m Mrs Adorable and I’m about to tell you something you may not know. The dreaded UVA and UVB rays in summer are present in massive quantities even in the mountains , I talked about them some time ago in two articles:
- Suncreams in the mountains protection at high altitudes
- Sunbathing: why do you get more tanned in the mountains ?
In a nutshell, at high altitudes, due to the reduction in the atmosphere, the sun’s rays are more powerful and potentially dangerous, moreover, when we find ourselves on the snow to ski, snowshoe or enjoy moments of relaxation outside the shelter on a deckchair, the effect of refraction increases the amount and power of solar radiation . This is why it is essential to protect the skin with a good sunscreen.
Sun damage at high altitudes
Not using sunscreen in the long term exposes the skin to premature aging caused by solar radiation, while in the short term the risk of sunburn on the face, neck and ears is as real as at the beach in summer. In the mountains we don’t think about it because the cold and the high altitude don’t allow us to perceive the heat of the sun but in reality its power is very high and dangerous. Protecting the skin, as well as giving a very beautiful and uniform color, slows down the skin aging process and keeps the skin soft, hydrated and elastic .

Protect the little ones with sunscreen
Did you know that children’s skin is much more fragile and is much more exposed to damage from UV rays?
Children’s skin is thinner and their self-defense system against the sun’s rays is not fully developed . This condition causes 50 to 80 percent more damage and sunburn during childhood and adolescence.
If your children, your nephews or younger cousins love skiing and snowboarding , they must be protected from solar radiation with great attention to ensure that they have fun on the snow in total safety.

When to apply sunscreen
Just like at the beach , to maintain the maximum effectiveness of the protection, the sunscreen should be applied to the exposed parts several times a day, and in the same way, in the evening after the shower, allow yourself a few moments of relaxation with a gentle massage by applying an after-sun cream to soothe and hydrate the skin, preparing it for the next day on the snow.
